Juniors Under 9/Under 10 is a twice per week, training only program that takes place in four separate 6-week cycles across the year. The program is coached and led by Twin Tiers SC Technical Director Colton Bly, a U.S. Soccer National 'A' Licensed coach.
The four separate programs held throughout the year are outlined below:
In general, children have transitioned from the pre-operational stage of cognitive development to the concrete operational stage. The egocentrism of the previous stage begins to disappear as kids become better at thinking about how to interact with others to achieve common tasks.
In the soccer context, this means learning to view the game as a team sport and make purposeful actions with the ball. Small group situations within the larger, more complex game become the focus as players get high repetitions in reality-based exercises (2v1, 3v2, 4v3, etc).
Situation coaching remains a dominant coaching action, along with the introduction to reference coaching, the use of specific question-answer patterns to develop the player's ability to communicate and make decisions independently and autonomously.
